I was so excited to talk about how the Mets won two games in a row. I was even going to go as far as joking about how we might make the World Series now. But Marcus Stroman had to go and put a damper on that dream of mine.
Don’t get me wrong, I am in total support of putting your health first and making sure your family is safe. But shoot Stroman, why did you have to do us so dirty?
Before the season started, we learned we were going to lose Noah Syndergaard for the entire season. It’s likely to be a devastating blow. Luckily we had signed Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha in the offseason. So we’re all thinking, “okay, this could be bad but hopefully we will survive.”
But wait, Marcus Stroman is coming in hyping all the Mets fans up in the offseason. “I feel like I’m in the best shape of my career, honestly.” Stroman said. Eight days later the Mets organization announced that Stroman had tore his calf muscle.
Okay, it is a REALLY good thing we signed both Porcello and Wacha despite Porcello pitching terribly last year. We could always use Seth Lugo as a starter after years of him begging the organization to let him start. However we’re the Mets, so why would we give players what they want?
It is honestly getting so frustrating being a Mets fan. The Mets placed Stroman on the injured list at the start of the season and there was no timetable for his return.
Stroman would throw sessions but the Mets would refuse to take him off the injured list. At least until he was able to prove that he could run and field without aggravating his calf. Things were looking promising. Mets fans had hope that we would see Stroman take the field before the end of the shortened 60-game season. Then Stroman opted out of the season. *Internal screaming*
We just lost Céspedes to an opt out last week and now we lose another one of our starters? The Mets were probably worried they were not going to be able to squeeze all the stress and agony of a 16- game season into 60 games but they are doing a pretty darn good job. But hey, at least deGrom is getting run support now.
