Finally something other than Arkham for DC.
DC is making a comeback in the video game world and we are all on the edge of our seats. Too many of us have been absolutely flamed after seeing a gangster Joker drive a purple Lamborghini. We are finally ready to love again.
DC released the trailers for two different games during their online event: DC FanDome. We got to see trailers for “Gotham Knights” and “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” during this online event.
Without getting too deep into my personal trauma and betrayal from all things DC, I think it’s safe to say that most of us hold a shared apprehension for new content. I’ve had to scrub all the photos of me dressed as Harley for Halloween off my Facebook. Pfffft that could never be me.
After my first watch of the “Suicide Squad” trailer, I started testing out the waters again. I’ve got one toe in and the water feels okay. After a second watch I’m about to put my whole foot in.
The graphics are actually good and the team has great chemistry. This game is a 1-4 player co-op. It has the potential to be a great response to Marvel’s brand new Avengers co-op game.
The only other real important takeaway is that the title implies that the Suicide Squad is going to be fighting the Justice League. Yet the ending of the trailer leaves more questions than answers. Superman appears at the very end but his eyes are glowing red, oh and he absolutely disintegrates a pilot into tiny little pieces. Will the Squad be actually saving the city from a rogue Superman? I can’t wait to find out.
“Gotham Knights” comes swinging with an emotional trailer about Batman’s death. He leaves the justice of the city up to his “sidekicks,” Red Hood, Nightwing, Batgirl and Robin. This game can either be single player or two player. It showcases just how unique and different each player’s abilities and combat styles are. The trailer left us on a cliffhanger as it teased The Court of Owls, a secret society of villains within Gotham. Although the plot isn’t exactly defined and there is more gameplay than dialogue, the death of Batman needs to be avenged and with that, great storylines and villains have to be right around the corner.
I truly feel like DC puts out great content when it comes to video games but they really do feel repetitive in structure. With different characters, abilities and gameplay in general coming our way I believe this will be a well needed refresh for the comic giant.
